MR. OLAYINKA OLUFEMI

You are heartily welcomed to Automobile Technology Education Department in the School of Vocational and Technical Education Adeniran Ogunsanya college of Education Oto  Ijanikin . The department was created and adapted to teaching and learning the theoretical and practical aspect of Automobile technology. We also undertake automobile vehicle services diagnosing faults, repairs and maintenance of automobile vehicles ,the functions of all components and practicals on automobile vehicles  are taught and fully minded that our students are to have teaching qualification along side with the theories and practical knowledge. We have good hands to train students on theories/practical and produce practical projects. The watch word for the department is safety and quality. The department tries as much to upheld integrity and quality students. The department has lecture rooms and stantard workshop with workbenches, machines, equipments and tools and fleets of motor vehicles including offices to accommodate students and lecturers. 

About Us

In 1982, government approved the setting up of the division of Technical Education into three Departments: Business, Home Economics and Engineering. The Engineering Department has two units, Mechanical and Building Engineering.

In 1988, considering the NBTE curriculum, the Engineering Department was further divided into 5 units namely, Metalwork, Building, Automobile, Electrical/Electronic and Woodwork Technology unit. Recently, the Department fully adopting the N.C.C.E requirements and in 1996 the Department of Mechanical/Metalwork was renamed as Department of Automobile Technology Education and Department of Metal-work Technology. The college has since recognized the conditions and students now specialized either on Metal-work Technology Education or Automobile Technology Education starting from 1996 academic session under the School of Vocational and Technical Education in accordance with the government approval, the students graduated specialized in NCE Technical (Automobile Technology Education Option) with effect from 1998 to date.

The working capacity of the department has four lecturers and three (3) foreman/workshop assistants in the teaching of theories and practical. The strength of the department lies on the knowledge and experiences of our staff in directing the students on repairs and maintenance of vehicles and on challenges that seem to bring resilience on our field.

The department has previously been headed by three lecturers, Dr J.O OWOSO1999-2002 & 2011-2013, Engineer Zosu S .J  2004-2011, and Mr B.A. Adenuga  2014-2017, presently Mr. Olayinka Olufemi is the Head of Department..

Opportunities are usually created through the college management and procurement unit to service, repair and maintain college vehicles.

Mission/Objectives

  • To produce qualified Technical Teachers and Practitioners of Technology Education capable of teaching Basic Technology in Junior Secondary Schools and to teach Automobile Technology at Senior Secondary Schools and Technical Colleges.
  • To produce NCE Technical Teachers who will inculcate the scientific and technological attitude and values into the Nigerian society.

Achievements

The department has tremendous achievement in the following areas:

  • Production of qualified technical teachers and practitioners of technology education currently teaching basic technology in Nigerian junior secondary schools.
  • Produced teachers of automobile technology in Nigerian senior secondary schools and in technical colleges.
  • Produced auto-mechanic graduates that are self-employed on auto-mechanic work skills and those working in automobile industries.
  • Produced graduates for community services in modern auto-mobile repairs through the use of auto-scanning machines
  • Provision of avenue for students industrial work experience for interested students from other tertiary institutions.

Forward Plan

Our plan for The Department of Automobile Technology Education is

  • To have partnership with industries in other to improve skills acquisition for student
  • To contribute to internally generated revenue of the college.
  • To also upgrade the department to degree awarding status.
  • To produce qualified technical teacher and practitioners of technology capable of teaching Basic technology in the junior secondary schools and senior secondary schools including technical colleges offering motor vehicle mechanic courses .
  • To produce technical NCE teachers who will be able to adapt and inculcate basic and current scientific and technological attitudes and valves into the society.
  • To create work study programme for students such as establishment of standard car wash, Auto diagnostic center and unleashing station to produce services for the community at large.

Decision Making

The staffs in the department is involved in the day to day running of the units and meetings are held to arrive at ways in which activities are performed in all the units.

Departmental Policy

Policy and practice of staff development is as laid down in the college condition of services related to the discipline. Some of the staff are presently enjoying staff development programme in various capacities.

Staff Promotion

Staff in the department is promoted when due according to the laid down procedures in the college approved guidelines for promotion and appointment. Discipline is according to the laid down rules and regulations of the department and the college.

Academic Complaints Handling

The handling of complaints is usually through the head of the department to the Dean and from the School Dean to the academic board through the academic office.

Students Academic counseling

The department has a counseling center that takes care of students in such needs. Furthermore, every academic staff in Automobile Technology Education Department is usually involved in student’s academic counseling. Students are encouraged to meet with the head of Automobile Department for consultation about academic matters.

Examinations

Setting, Conduct, Evaluation Schemes, Moderation Schemes (internal and external) for Examinations and The Issuance of Result.

  • Setting: This is done by the staff in charge of the course.
  • Conduct: Usually carried out by a committee that organizes the staff venue and issuance of examination, papers and materials as appropriate.
  • Evaluation Scheme: These are done by the staff in charge of the course/course subject to the approval of the standing committee of the college.
  • Moderation Scheme: The Internal moderation is done by the appropriate staff of the college while the External moderation is done by qualified personnel from recognized college of education offering similar programme in Nigeria.

Admission Requirements

  • Passes in 5’ subjects including English Language, science subject, 3 of which must be at credit level in the same sitting or 4 credits at two sittings in SSCE/GCE, T.C II, Federal Craft Certificate, ACE and through JAMB. Two of the credits must be relevant to Automobile Technology.
  • NABTEB, NTC or City and Guilds Intermediate certificate with the Federal Craft Training Certificate with credit/merit in at least 4 subjects.
  • Successful candidates in the Pre-NCE final Examination are giving admission,
