Welcome to EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE EDUCATION

The School offers academic and professional courses in Early Childhood Care Education and Primary Education at NCE and Degree levels.  It provides advisory services to public and private schools on school improvement, personnel support and pedagogical enhancement through workshops to caregivers, helpers and teachers at our level of specialization.  We are involved in innovative research activities and publish results of our findings to fill gaps in thoughts and practices in Early Childhood Care Education and Primary Education.

About

The School of Early Childhood and Primary Education (SECPED) was established as a response to the policy directive contained in the 2012 edition of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) Minimum Standard.  The NCCE 2012 edition, classified teacher education programmes into six areas of specialization, including Early Childhood and Primary Education.

Rising from a Capacity Enhancement Workshop sponsored by the College (AOCOED) on the interpretation of the NCCE document, the Management of the College, through the Academic Board, approved the establishment of the School of Early Childhood and Primary Education from the 2013/2014 session.  Precisely on the 14th of April, 2014, the Provost appointed a substantive Dean, Dr. G.O. Olaogun, to head the newly established School.  The School has two Departments namely:

  • Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE); and
  • Primary Education (PED)
