Welcome To The Centre For Extra-Mural Studies And Community Education (CESCOED)

CESCOED was established with a view of ensuring access to lifelong learning and education for adults, school leavers, secondary school students, artisans, primary school teachers, local government officials and others who are interested in capacity building and self-development. The programmes of the Centre range from Remedial classes, Certificate/Diploma Courses in Vocational/Technical Courses, Montessori Education, Computer Studies, Theological Studies, Marketing, Office Management, Fisheries, Social Work, Adult Education and Accounting Technician Scheme to mention but a few.

About

The Centre was established on the 24th day of January, 2011 by the Colleges Academic Board & the Provost (Mr. Hakeem O. Ajose Adeogun). The Provost thereafter appointed Mr A.W. Ajetunmobi and Mr A.S. Okedeyi as the Director and Deputy Director respectively to kick-start the Centre. The administration of the first Board ended on 30th August, 2016 where after the Provost appointed the present Director Mrs Okunade Atinuke, O. Ph.D. and Mr Azeez F.A.J. as the Programme Secretary, after which a general posting was made in the College which changed the Centre’s Programme Secretary to MR OYEFOLU T.A. on Monday 4th December, 2017.


Mission/Objectives

  • To improve the general literacy level and participation in democratic processes by participants;
  • To provide opportunity to individuals and groups for career and personal development and improve job performance; and
  • To provide open and distance learning programmes in Adult Education, Secondary and Post-Secondary Education.


Vision

To ensure accessibility to Education by all adults, youths, unemployed, artisans, women groups, under-employed, retired & serving civil servants, teachers and able-bodied members of the general public who seek further Education to improve their skills, knowledge, productivity, income and quality of life.


Scope and Responsibilities

  • Awarding of Certificate and Diploma courses;
  • Adult and Non-Formal Education courses as sponsored by the Lagos State Government, leading to Basic Education Certificate (BEC) and AOCOED Certificate of Proficiency in various trades for artisans, holders of Junior School Certificate;
  • Holding of Community Education Lecture Series;
  • Skills Development Courses in millinery, soap making, refrigeration & air-conditioning , bricklaying, horticulture and feed manufacturing;
  • External Examinations administration and sales of forms of NABTEB, NECO and G.C.E;
  • Volunteer Service Programme in partnership with Primary Schools in Mathematics, English and Basic Science and other Community Service; and
  • Training of indigenes of various Communities on different vocations

  • Achievements

    • Massive campaign of the Centres programmes in handbills, banners, posters and advertisements in coronation programmes and Campus Mouth Piece (a publication for Lagos Tertiary Institutions).
    • Endorsement by the Lagos State Government as one of the Centres in the State to run the Adult and Non-Formal Literacy Education Programme (Agency for Mass Education).

    Administrative Structure

    The Director is the Chief Operation Officer and responsible to the Provost. The Administrative Officer (Programme Secretary), handles all the administrative processes, assisted by the Clerical Officer, Ad-hoc Staff and.other administrative staff.
